Become A Better You.

A little less than a week ago I began reading a book titled Become A Better You, by Joel Osteen. I’ve owned the book for about a year or so, yet until now it was more of a dust collecter than anything else. I’ve really been trying to be a more significant Christian recently. More serious about my faith and walk with God. I saw the book lying on my book shelf and I felt drawn to picking it up for some reason. I started writing things down in a notebook that really spoke to me in the book. Needless to say, I had a page and ahalf of notes on the first chapter.

The thing that’s really being spoken to me through the words in that book is that I have a God given assignment, somebody out there needs what I have to offer (gifting, creativity, talent exc;) and that now is the time to give birth to the dreams and desires God placed in my heart. This book has sparking a sort of fire of determination for greatness in my life. I’m placing the destiny of my dreams in His hands, for it says in the Bible: Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4)

I’ve been praying and praying that my dream to go out to California in the summer for an internship at the LA Dream Center, is part of His plan for my life. Those hurting people who turned to drugs for comfort have really been put on my heart. I watch shows like A&E’s Intervention, and my heart just breaks for those people. Their families are destroyed, there’s no structure in their family anymore and the addict is more concerned with getting yet another fix more than they care about themselves. I feel so strongly called to help them. I watch movies about young adults who are destroying their future by making stupid desicions to do drugs and drink and disrespect their parents breaks my heart. That’s where God planted that seed in me actually.

I was watching a Lifetime movie called Augusta, Gone. It’s also my favorite book. It’s a true story about a mom who’s daughter is pulling away, drifting into a life of drugs, drinking, running away. I remember watching that movie again after it came out on itunes. I felt like I could help her, those like her. This was even before I knew about God at all. I wasn’t in the church at this time yet, but I guess God placed that seed in me.

I know I got off topic there a little bit, I just wanted to give some back story; explain myself and my dreams, if you will. This book says Don’t let the size of your dreams or the vastness of Gods calling on your life intimidate you. It also says Give birth to what God has placed in your heart.

My dream is to go out to Los Angeles and make a difference in peoples lives and to trust God that the Dream Center is all a part of my destiny god has planned for me.
